The Newcranes

The Newcranes comprised a group of young musicians playing up-tempo mandolin-oriented Ukrainian-influenced folk punk music, who were based in the East Midlands of the United Kingdom in the early 1990s. They formed part of Derby's energetic folk punk scene. The Newcranes tasted chart success, did headline tours, festivals and shared the bill with such luminaries as Bob Dylan, The Levellers, The Pogues, Skunk Anansie, and Rolf Harris.

The group split at the end of the 1990s. Lead singer Wolly Dyszkant emigrated to Melbourne, Australia, and currently records under the name DyMyR, an adaptation of his full Ukrainian first name Wolodymyr.
