Y2K came and went and the world didn't come to an end. The new millenium continued and the teen pop, euro pop, britpop and boybands that arose in the late 90's were now in full swing. Alt rock became more mainstream. Country tracks started inching their way into the pop top 40 again. Electronic music was gathering steam. R&B and hip hop flourished. The world of pop music had new terms like post grunge, emo, crunk, and wardrobe malfunction. The internet saw the launch of online digital music services and internet radio stations. Artists had their own websites and independent artists were able to reach an audience that was previously unattainable. Social media helped launch artists onto the radio and reality TV singing competitions spawned chart topping artists. RadioIO's Eddie George hosts a channel called 00's Pop.
