Our university has been the pioneer on radio and television technologies throughout the country for years, hence, in that direction; ITU Radio, as the first University radio in Turkey, was established and had started regular radio broadcast in 1945. In 1954, the first radio transmitter with frequency modulation was implemented and in 1971 the first stereo-FM transmitter broadcast took place. Established in 1953, the first telestation, ITU-TV began its test telecasts, and in time, its highly developed television infrastructure had served for TRT until TRT Istanbul studios and their transmitter were set up. However, given the radio and TV monopoly rights in the country to TRT by the Law, both regular evening broadcasts by ITU Radio and regular weekly telecasts by ITU-TV were put an end. Our university radio, after a long while, by a two-years’ restructure, completed its preparations, and, on Sunday, 29th of October 1995, the 72. anniversary of Republican Day, at 7.30 p.m., both from FM channel on cable-TV system (Anatolian Coast 92.4 MHz – European Coast 92.5 MHz) and from FM 103.8 MHz in ITU Ayazaga Campus peripheries on air, started Stereo Classical Music broadcasting. By the beginning of 1998, internet broadcasting also started out.
